Souvenirs Wholesale: How to Stock a Souvenir Shop
A souvenir shop that sells well has a clear layout: plenty of small items for quick purchases, a few mid-range gifts and a couple of eye-catching pieces that draw people in. Here is how to put your range together, whether you run a shop, a hotel kiosk or a museum store.
1. Three price tiers
- Small items (small čuturas, spoons, small plates): the highest unit sales — bought on impulse and in multiples.
- Mid-range gifts (plates, beer mugs, snow globes, bags): your main source of revenue.
- Statement pieces (statues, wall clocks, large maps): raise the average receipt and draw attention in the shop window.
2. Motifs by location
Tourists buy what they have seen. In Belgrade that means the Victor, the Temple of Saint Sava and “Belgrade” lettering; in Novi Sad, Petrovaradin and Vojvodina; on Zlatibor, Kopaonik and Tara, motifs of those mountains; in spa towns, the spa itself. General Serbian motifs (coat of arms, tricolor, map) sell everywhere.
3. Seasonality
Spring and summer bring the most tourists to the cities; winter brings them to the mountains and ski resorts. Corporate gift orders also pick up ahead of New Year. Plan your stock at least a month before the season starts.
4. Display
- Place small items by the checkout — that’s where they sell most.
- Display ceramics and glassware on shelves at eye level.
- Hang bags near the entrance: they advertise themselves.
